Florence didn't come anywhere near Ocracoke but as Atlantic storms so often do, she broke the back of summer. The past three days have been cool and windy. Frank and I went to the beach after work last evening. Low clouds were rushing across the sky and the sunset was breathtaking. The ocean was very angry. Huge swells were coming in from the southeast but the northeast wind was strong and was blowing the tops off of them. We felt like we were witnessing an immense struggle with no clear winner. The wildness of the weather here is exhilerating. Perhaps that is one of the reasons we who live here, live here.
