Monday Morning

Ocracokers are looking forward to a sunny day today. Cristobal is heading farther out to sea as I write, having had little impact on Ocracoke. We didn't even get enough rain to water our plants. Last night a few bands of dark clouds circled overhead as bats chased insects through the darkening sky and a moderate breeze wafted across the porch. Other than that, we wouldn't have even known there was a storm passing by.

As usual, all is well out here on the Outer Banks.

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is Lou Ann's account of installing an old-fashioned pitcher pump. You can read it here.

    Philip,

Nice to hear that all is well on your "perfect" Island. I do have a question that I'm hoping you have an answer to.....How long do restaurants/shops stay open at the end of the real tourist season. Would we still have places to dine and shops to visit if we came in October? How 'bout November?

Look forward to your blog every day :-) and I'm a little disappointed when there isn't a daily update. I know I know.....just what do I
expect of you? Keep up the good work.

    Pat.....

  2. Pat,

Most everything is open through October, and many shops and restaurants will be open until Thanksgiving, some (usually Village Craftsmen) until the end of the year.
Of course, the later into the fall and winter, the fewer businesses that will be open.

One more thing -- I'm glad you put "perfect" in quotation marks! Ocracoke may not be perfect, but it's pretty wonderful in so many ways.

    Glad you enjoy the journal.

    Philip
