It's the end of society as we know it.

  2. and to think the first year we stayed at Ocracoke we didn't have a phone in our room at Pony Island Motel and this was way before cell phones. There was a pay phone after stepping off the porch.

  4. I have many misgivings about Facebook...too many to go into in a blog comment. However, putting Village Craftsmen on Facebook was a business decision. We wanted a way to conveniently offer special promotions now and then, and to draw new readers to this blog and to the Village Craftsmen web site.

I remember my father commenting that his father refused to install screens in his house. Today we can't imagine not having screens. Maybe we'll feel the same way about so many of today's new technologies. On the other hand, if this experiment doesn't work well we'll abandon it.

We all need to keep things in perspective, and Philip is certainly right about making good business decisions. Ocracoke and Village Craftsmen are actually REAL. FaceBook is NOT.
If it had been available, Blackbeard himself would have been online. Imagine how much more coverage he would have gotten with images of the burining fuses in his beard electronically sent to "all the ships at sea" of the British Navy!
    Happy Memorial Day to all!

  6. Bill, you are so right about Ocracoke, Village Craftsmen, and Facebook. This is especially true of friends (real friends are few and precious...and you can look them in the eye, share a meal together, or sit on the pizer and chat about the day; Facebook "fiends" are something much different -- may we never confuse the two!).

  7. There are friends and there are FRIENDS. Because I don't get to see my FRIENDS often, I do like to keep in touch, and FB helps make that happen. Through it I stay a more active part of the lives of my nieces and nephews (I haven't friended my son--TMI), and the college students and young adults from my church.

Philip, your FB Fiends would probably like to know-did you leave out the R in friend on purpose or was that a Freudian slip?

  11. It was a slip of the keyboard! Sorry about that. There was no hidden meaning. Remember...sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
