Power Update

From a recent (Sept. 1, 2011) Tideland Electric Membership Cooperative presss release:

"Ocracoke residents remain under generator power. The fate of the island's transmission service rests with Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative to the north on Hatteras Island."

I understand schools resumed in various hard-hit areas. Did the Ocracoke School resume classes? If so, does the school have an industrial size generator to keep everything running during rolling blackouts?

    Forgive my ignorance. Just wondering....Thanks!

  2. The school schedule has been adjusted to work around the rolling blackouts...however, we've had continuous power for a while now. We are hoping to be back on the grid soon.

Sounds encouraging...thanks so much for answering my question. I wasn't sure how the school could be open with limited electrical power.

It's good to have the school resume classes, even if it's on an adjusted schedule, as you say.

In Louisa, VA, near my childhood home and where the earthquake epi center is, I understand one school had to move into another, so classes are M-W-F for the students/teachers from one school and the other school, sharing the same building, has classes on T-TH-Sat. It's the best solution for that particular situation.
