Happy Spring!

Today marks the Spring Equinox, one of two days in the year when day and night are of equal length. From now until the Summer Solstice the days will be longer than the nights, bringing us more sunshine and warmer weather. As the days continue to lengthen we anticipate more visitors coming to Ocracoke.

Shopkeepers are sprucing up their buildings, gardeners are working in their yards, fishermen are repairing their boats, and children are playing outdoors. If you are on the island be sure to smile and wave as you pass by. This is a happy time of year.

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is the story of the Civil War on the Outer Banks, Josephus Daniels, Jr, Secretary of the Navy during WWI, and his connection to Ocracoke. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news022112.htm.

Today is one of two days of the year when you should be able to stand an egg on end.
It's working in Kansas City! How about on the island?

Yeah I was always told that legend. I was so disappointed when I figured out you can stand an egg on end ANY day. Nobody ever tries it on the other days. No scientific basis, but fun none the less.

I tried it about 2 weeks ago. Worked fine once I got it balanced.
