James Barrie

Yesterday I wrote about James Barrie Gaskill and his "Fat Boys Fish Company." James Barrie is not only an Ocracoke fisherman...he is also a board member of the North Carolina Coastal Federation. He was featured on the cover of their most recent magazine.

James Barrie is pictured above with a bucket full of tasty Pamlico Sound clams. Be sure to stop by his truck stand for some fresh seafood when you are on the island!

This month's Ocracoke Newsletter is a photo gallery of past July 4th parade photos. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news062113.htm.

It's really a treat to shop for dinner from James Barrie - the clams and shrimp are great, and he's good company. :-) We'll soon be back for our annual visit and Fat Boys' cart will definitely be one of our stops.

Another stop we'd love to make is at the Watermen's Exhibit. We've tried several summers in a row now, but have never found it open, nor have we been able to find a schedule there or on line. Sniff. Any ideas, Philip?

    1. If there is a schedule for the Watermen's Exhibit I don't know what it is. However, it seems to be open often. Keep checking!

Now the truck pictured in the Our Coast on line e-zine is different, more colorful and Boasts the name Fatboys Fish Company. Does JB sell fish too? Is it cash only like the fish taco stand? Also, in the e-zine an essay leads with the question often asked of ENC coastal natives "What on Earth do you do down there?" I must admit from reading this blog for a while I can honestly say that I think I have an inkling.DD

    1. James Barrie sells clams, shrimp, and crabs. You can buy fish at the Fish House. I do not know if James Barrie accepts anything other than cash.
