Ferry Tips

Below is some valuable information from the NC Department of Transportation for folks traveling to Ocracoke via the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferries:

Hatteras-Ocracoke: On the Ferry System's most popular summer route, motorists who arrive at Hatteras before 10am or after 3pm will generally avoid the daily crowds, as will travelers who get to Ocracoke's South Dock before 2pm or after 7pm. In addition, the busiest summer days on the Hatteras Inlet route are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. "People who make their day trips on Monday or Friday stand a much better chance of avoiding long waits," says Hatteras Port Captain Walter Goodwin.

When tourists arrive on OI is there a tendency for their attire to give them away? Far too many tank tops? Honestly, how many people older then 22 look good in a tank top? Crocs? was there a season of far too many crocs? Is it casual Friday everyday on OI? Rather enjoy you posting images of days gone by, most interesting to see a generation that wore sensible clothes, fashion forward perhaps not, is it the hair styles that give away the decade in a photo?

Philip, I have an old photo of the coast guard station with a float plant tied up to the docks. Do you know if anyone had done this recently?

(also to anon 7:51, there a re a lot of 30+ women out there who look great in tank tops. You are either not attracted to women or jealous of them. GO GIRLS YOU LOOK GREAT!

  3. Anon. 7:51 -- In a small community like Ocracoke, we don't need clothes to "give people away" since we know virtually everyone who lives here.

Anon. 1:03 -- I have not seen a sea plane in our harbor for, probably, 35 years.

I think every day is casual .... day. That's the great thing about the island, leave the hustle and bustle at home.
