January Newsletter

We have just published our latest Ocracoke Newsletter. As most of our readers know, seafaring and fishing were major occupations for many islanders, and working on the water was often dangerous. This month we share a list of Ocracoke residents and others connected with our island who lost their lives at sea, from the early 1800s through the mid-1960s. For some we only have the briefest of information e.g. lost at sea"), for others we have newspaper accounts and family stories. You can read the Newsletter here:

Was foul play ever considered in the death of Mary Ann Scales?

    1. Yes, there was. Maybe this would be an interesting future Newsletter.

    2. Just did a bit of research. There is some evidence that Mary Ann Scales did not drown, but may have run away to Florida! Stay tuned for a future Ocracoke Newsletter.

  2. I can see you spent a lot of time researching this newsletter.
Thanks for an interesting and well written report.
