Ocracoke Brogue Segment

For those of our readers who missed Monday's CBS segment with Mo Rocca about accents and the Ocracoke brogue, here is a link to that episode:

Many thanks to "Debbie S" who alerted me to the video.

One other thing -- if you see Amy Howard today wish her a Happy Birthday! I won't tell you how old she is but there is a 4 and a 0 involved. I don't know how this happened.

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is a list of a few traditional Ocracoke Island recipes. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news052112.htm.

    Our baby turned 22 yesterday.

He was just three months old when we made our first visit to the OBX--and our first visit to an OBX medical center (thank you, roseola virus), rinsing him in a cool-water bath to help break his fever.

We stayed in Kitty Hawk and over the ensuing years ventured farther and farther southward 'til we discovered our fantasy home: Ocracoke Island.

Always look forward to getting back; even the 22-year-old. (His favrite thing to do there is STILL to shop the candy stores!)

Happy Birthday to your baby, Philip. Where does the time go indeed!

Did the story not say that North Carolina is a linguists dream state to study accents. In North Carolina a melting pot exists no doubt due to isolation and as that Henry Gates PBS show about ancestral histories some folks married their cousins and did so for generations! Isolated areas may have forced these choices in the past

Belated Birthday Greetings to Amy from NC Mainlander!

Busy these days, but when I can, I so enjoy my "ahhhh, relaxing time" reading your blog, Philip. Hoping this will be a great spring/summer/fall season on O.I. for everyone. Still planning to visit in the fall.
