I was on the island when the helicopter came and tried to take Mrs. Scarborough to the hospital. Kathleen O'Neal told me later this amazing Ocracoke legend didn't survive. Although she lived such a long life, I felt such a sense of deep loss among the locals there. It was something I had never experienced on the island before in previous trips and it's something I'll never forget. It is a memory which touched my heart.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
