A 63 ...There was one drowning last year, in August. A 63 year old man drowned while trying to rescue another swimmer in distress. I don't think there were any other drownings at Ocracoke last year. The National Park Service has posters and other notices at the beach and at the Visitors Center to educate visitors about rip currents.
