Records-- that have been sitting around somewhere-- to be finally read and thus what were once considered Historical footnotes now become a major chapter? To think the ship was deliberately run aground, to think these trinkets; a diamond encrusted wine glass were discovered over the course of many years and now we hear of a crusty old anchor. Where is the outrage that these facts languished in some archive-- How many pirates had nick names---- Now we know the black in Blackbeard he trafficked in slaves. The other countries that played a role in trafficking slave labour-- France, the Dutch and Spain, Portugal they need to come to the table in any discussion of reparations. It was a global international injustice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6559692.post-25773612717482099942011-06-23T11:33:32.185-04:002011-06-23T11:33:32.185-04:00Thank you Philip-most likely you are correct.Thank you Philip-most likely you are correct.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6559692.post-81587683718969481632011-06-23T10:07:21.779-04:002011-06-23T10:07:21.779-04:00I believe what was once thought to be Blackbeard&#...I believe what was once thought to be Blackbeard's "Sugar Ship" is now thought to be a much later wreck. While researching came across a reference to Blackbeard's "Sugar ship" supposedly sunk in Ocracoke inlet. Was the archeological dive ever completed-are there recovered artifacts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6559692.post-2671994106311701042011-06-23T09:06:09.641-04:002011-06-23T09:06:09.641-04:00Oops! I had not considered before now that NC didn't have the "best" African American men, but rather the most capable slaves lived in VA & SC.

I also noticed your ancestor, William Howard, mentioned in the piece. It appears he was quite clever.

I am particularly impress with one of the final paragraphs in the article where Ken addresses the tremendous sacrifices the slaves (and their families) made during that difficult time when they were brought to Eastern NC.

Well-written articles....thanks for sharing.

It is truly a part of our NC history which should not be forgotten.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
