This month's Ocracoke Newsletter is a story written in 1968 by Allie (Teenie) Scott. Island resident, Jen Esham, Allie's daughter, shared the story with me. It is a story about Simon Garrish, Jr. (1865-1935) and his United States Life-Saving horse, Sambo.

Reading both the Sambo post and your genealogy of Agnes Scott, it appears that Jen Esham and Irvin Scott Garrish were first cousins. Am I right? You wrote an interesting story about Irvin in your island natives series. I would love to read such a story about Jen and her family and the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYou are a careful reader...and you are correct. Jen and Irvin are first cousins. Maybe I can convince Jen to share more details about her family and the Pony Island Restaurant & Motel. Stay tuned.
DeleteThat Sambo was one smart horse.
