Waiting & Watching

There's not much else to do. Fishermen have mostly brought in their nets, boats are out of the water or secured with extra line, a few cars are parked on higher ground. But Ophelia is moving very slowly. It seems that it will be Wednesday or maybe even Thursday before we feel the full impact of this storm. Nevertheless, at this time many deliveries to the island are being curtailed, and travel to Ocracoke is restricted. We understand that ferry operations will likely be completely suspended later today or early tomorrow.

The good news is that this is not now a severe hurricane. However because Ophelia is moving so slowly, emergency management personnel are expecting an extended storm which could mean soundside and/or ocean flooding.

I hope all goes well for you folks!
I visited Ocracoke a couple of months ago and absolutely fell in love with the place. There was a storm the morning I was there and I had to wade through ankle deep water to get to your store, but it was well worth the trek.
I wish you all the best.
    Stay safe!

    Philip,
Stay safe and be careful. I appreciate all of your updates re the storm. The big news tells of island evacuations, however I feel like your news is what really matters. I remember when Bob came and we evacuated the campground only to return several days later, the third family in camp after spending three days in Elizabeth City in a motel cooking on the patio with our Coleman. Fortunately for Ocracoke that storm hit further north. I'll be thinking about everyone there. Carol from Ohio
