In January I posted information and a link to
Garrett Fisher's aerial photos of the Outer Banks. Earlier this month Garrett flew over Hatteras and Ocracoke again. He has posted another gallery of stunning photos of shoals and sand bars in the inlets, tidal flows, currents, soundside marshes, and ocean beaches.

This month's Ocracoke Newsletter is the story of the Ocracoke Orgy. You can read it here:

Stunning photography! The Frenel lens riddle put me in mind of another light - have you ever seen the "water fire" at Ocracoke and if so is there a particular place or time to see this? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, "water fire" can be spectacular. I have seen it at the ocean beach many times, and once when I was swimming off of a skiff almost in the inlet (not recommended...I was young and foolish at the time). At that time the phosphorescence created a foot-wide "aura" around each swimmer's body. What a beautiful sight. The phosphorescence is most common on warm summer evenings, especially if the water is disturbed.
DeleteThank you for posting these gorgeous photographs. What a treat to behold!
