Videos

Last night, after our last Opry of this season, Wes Lassiter told us that he'd discovered a You Tube posting of portions of the September 16 Opry performance.

I have located the posts. If you are a regular guest at our Wednesday night shows, or curious to see what talented musicians we have on Ocracoke Island, I believe you will enjoy these videos (and, by the way, that's me with the "dancing man"):

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is a reprint of an article Philip wrote about sailing aboard the historic two-masted schooner, Mary E. It was originally published in the Washington Post in 1976. You can read it here:

  1. Philip,
Loved seeing the videos of everyone in September. The harmony that everyone produces at the Opry is nothing short of A-MAZING! The addition of your dancing man was just the right touch, as well. It brought a smile to our face as did the hymns. Will you be seeling the dancing man in the Village Craftsman? It sure would be a hot item!

Thanks for sharing while we sit up here in the northern chill. I truly warmed our hearts.

When you access this video there are LOADS more that have been put on YouTube -- it was fun watching them!

  3. I'm glad folks are enjoying the videos.

Re. the dancing man: We did sell them many years ago (in the 70s & 80s). Some long-time visitors to the island will remember them. They were very good sellers...whenever I would demonstrate them. As you might imagine, after about twenty or more years of demonstrating the dancing man I decided that I couldn't do it any more (at least not regularly), so now it's just an addition to an occasional musical performance.
