Spucing Up

These last couple of weeks have seen islanders powerwashing boats, painting porches and steps, weeding gardens, and generally doing spring cleaning. After a long and cold winter it just plain feels good to be outside making life more beautiful and getting ready to enjoy the warmer weather.

Earlier in the week I removed all of the furniture (including my hammock) from my screened porch, and powerwashed the deck, posts, screen frames, and back wall of the house. Everything had been coated with dust, mildew, and cedar pollen. Now, after lunch or in the late afternoon, I get to kick back in the hammock with a cool drink, feel the breeze, and read a good book or magazine.

Life, as they say, is good on Ocracoke!

you know... i have a front porch that could use some TLC. you're welcome to come visit US (HAHA) and ill even give you food and coffee as payment. LOL ;)

wish we could come this year, but hubby had a stroke a few weeks ago and it doesn't look like he'll be in any shape for travel... so I'll just have to daydream and live vicariously through others...

So sorry, Debbie, for your husband's stroke....hope he will make good progress this year so you both can return to Ocracoke next year! If there is any possible way, you two go back together!

I lost my hubby to MS and our last trip together was in '97. Until then, we went just about every other year.

I returned to Ocracoke in the fall of '09 alone, just a few months after Scott's death....Ocracoke brought me a great sense of peace.

That was also the trip Philip invited me on the porch @ the Community Store on a beautiful fall afternoon to just sit and chat a spell, rocking my cares away. It meant a lot! Wonderful memories!

Now, to Philip...Boy, do I have a long "do list" for you!! :) Glad you got your spring chores done and you can relax in that hammock, enjoying the breeze! I so envy you! But, like Debbie, my deck, porch, etc could use some powerwashing and sprucing....just in case you get tired of being in that hammock!

Enjoy the beauty of this spring!

You need to have t-shirts made with the "Life is good on Ocracoke Island" for tourist to purchase.

We will be there on the island in a few more weeks. can't wait
