ReplyDeleteI know this was once the slogan of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I believe it was during WWII. Since many OI natives were involved in dredging, I was wondering if any of your kin had any connection to USACE. Perhaps you have some interesting stories to share.
My father worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a welder for 35 years. Many Ocracoke men worked for the Corps of Engineers also, often as deckhands, captains, or other positions on dredges and tug boats.
