My grandson, Eakin Howard, made the following video this summer from the deck of the Wilma Lee. Enjoy.
Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is an account of the recent skirmishes islanders have had with North Carolina legislatures over the issue of ferry tolls...and a 1955 newspaper editorial advocating free, state-operated ferries across Hatteras Inlet. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news082113.htm.

Not to many people have seen something like that. It reminds me that I live on a great big ball, they tell me we're circling a star. paraphrased from Jesse Winchesters "Defying Gravity"

DeleteThey are exquisite!
does anyone here remember the small publication called Ocracoke Treasure Chest? I was cleaning out some old papers and I found a
ReplyDeleteVol.1,Issue 2 copy dated Sept 1992. i wonder how long this publication lasted or did it stop with vol 1 issue2?
We remember the publication (we think Tom Yokum was the editor/publisher), but can't remember how many issues were published. It couldn't have been more than one or two years. Copies are in the OPS library.
DeleteSimply beautiful! Makes me homesick for the island!
