l. What is the event?
2. Where was the photo taken?
3. Who is astride the pony?
4. What are the three prominent houses in the background?

The event was the 3rd annual Shake Rag Pony Race, the photo was taken on the grounds of the recently opened Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Mr. Howard is astride the pony, The three prominent houses in the background presently are a restaurant, a museum and one is no longer standing or it is the most popular vacation rental o te island. If none of the previous is correct everyone is watching Hiway 12 get paved.
ReplyDeleteWell, shiver me timbers! You got one (two, if we give you a little slack) detail(s) correct. But which one(s)?
DeleteThe event was the annual summer Pony penning of the Banker Ponies. Astride the pony in the picture is Mr. Howard. The image was captured at a spot now considered apart of Cape Hatteras National Seashore as the dedication ceremonies coincided with the pony penning event. The three prominent structures currently house a historical society, a resturaunt and a general store. If none of the previos is correct everyone is still watching Hiway 12 get paved. DD
ReplyDeletePoster from above posts reporting in here. As I have never set foot on OI I was merely hazarding a guess from knowledge gained from following this here blog. PH you are stepping up your game here with the interactive luminosity games of late. PS was not the paving of Hi way 12 e sight to behold if the truth be told?
DeleteThe 4th of July pony penning. In front of the Island Inn. Marvin Howard is on the pony. House on the left is Marvin & Louvella Howard's the center one is now yours and the next one is Flossie's.
ReplyDeleteThank you Juanita. All correct, of course. Look for more information about the people, places and events in our last few "quizes" in Monday's post.
DeletePlease tell us about Juanita McLane and her place in the Howard family. I appreciate her two interesting descriptions of old photographs recently. Your first cousin? Blanche's cousin? I certainly hope I can meet her sometime.
ReplyDeleteJuanita is my first cousin, the daughter of Mary & James Enoch Howard, my father's brother. She remembers and loves the Ocracoke we both knew as children.
DeleteI do love Ocracoke, always have and always will. It is a very special place!!
DeletePhilip, I am looking forward to Monday's post.
