Philip, this is a good opportunity for me to "brag" on The Village Craftsmen. Please indulge me for a moment.

The Village Craftsmen is such a wonderful shoppe filled with quality, well-made items and offering an array of interesting, unique creations of beautiful artisan-made merchandise. Whether I'm there in person (which is such a joy) or if I'm ordering on-line, every effort is always made to make me a satisfied customer.

The extra effort taken to carefully packing the items, especially fragile pottery and the like, is fantastic. I've ordered several fragile items and every time, the box was packed so tightly that my merchandise arrived in perfect condition...even to the mainland!

Jude has been extremely nice to me when I have had to ask any questions. Just recently, Jude gave me excellent personal customer service when I called and inquired about Jack Dudley's books. If any of your bloggers do not have THE OCRACOKE ALBUM, filled with amazing photos and detailed history by Jack Dudley, I would strongly suggest they purchase this handsome autographed keepsake! I purchased a copy in October when I was fortunate to be at The Village Craftsman. It is outstanding.

A few weeks later & after I had returned to the mainland, I wanted a copy of another one of the Coastal Heritage Series and was thrilled when Jude told me she had Jack Dudley's book, MATTAMUSKEET & OCRACOKE WATERFOWL HERITAGE in stock. She quickly packed up the book, shipped it and in just a few days, it arrived in perfect condition. I'm so proud to own two of Jack Dudley's autographed, coffee-table quality books!

Whether I'm visiting The Village Craftsmen in person or ordering on-line, I'm never disappointed. My late husband, Scott, and I discovered this unique shoppe decades ago, located on charming Howard Street, and it is one of my favorite places to spend a leisurely afternoon on the island.

Thanks, Philip, for your insight in establishing The Village Craftsmen. I hope it will remain open for decades to come!

  3. Many thanks to our readers who left the comments above. For 40 years Village Craftsmen has been committed to offering fine, American made handcrafts at reasonable prices...and to providing friendly, efficient, and quality service to our customers.

Jude is an important part of that equation. She is a long time member of our staff, and does a fantastic job working with our many craftspeople, coordinating and encouraging our sales clerks, paying bills, filling mail orders, answering the telephone, and needling the owner!

Thank you Jude, for a job well done.
