Out of the Box

This year the OcraFolk Music & Storytelling Festival has embarked on a creative new fundraising project. About three dozen islanders and friends of Ocracoke picked up five pieces of wood from committee members several months ago. Any conventional person could make a simple box with the pieces. However, everyone was encouraged to think "outside of the box" to create a distinctive work of art. Some of these "boxes" will be auctioned off at the festival; others will be sold on Ebay. Below are photos of some of the early submissions (any idea which one is mine? -- no fair peeking at the file names!).

For more information about the boxes and their creators, and to see more boxes as they come in, click on this Festival Facebook page:

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is a list of a few traditional Ocracoke Island recipes. You can read it here:

Is there more information somewhere on how to bid on the boxes ? Thanks!

  4. From Ocrafolk Music and Storytelling Festival:

Most of the "boxes" will be available to be bid on at the Ocrafolk Festival Auction Friday, June 1 @ 7:30pm in the old school gym on Ocracoke. Some will be put on-line on eBay (more info on that will be posted on Ocracoke Alive's website later). Occasionally we get someone who cannot be here for the auction but really wants to bid. In that case we try to find a volunteer who will be our remote bidder for that person. You can always leave a message on the Ocrafolk Music and Storytelling Festival facebook page or contact us through our web site:
(attn: Amy if it's an auction question)
We are looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and many new faces at the Ocrafolk Festival this year!
