Sunrise

This morning I just want to share this "sunrise from Pamlico Sound" photo I took about a week ago.

Our current Ocracoke Newsletter is an account of Infant & Childhood Mortality on Ocracoke. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news072113.htm.

After driving in heavy traffic and rain very early this am to take a friend to the hospital in Raleigh, NC Mainlander appreciates your peaceful photo even more than usual. Ah, how I would adore a trip to beautiful Ocracoke!!!Thanks for sharing such a lovely pic.

NC Mainlander forgot to mention The Ocracoke Observer, August edition, and V.C. web-site are keeping me company while I am @ the hospital with my friend. I always take a bit of Ocracoke with me whenever I can. So grateful I can keep in touch with O.I. happenings.

We must be very special to our Father to receive such a magnificent gift each day.

That's a great shot (even better when viewed at a larger size) and a not-often-seen perspective of Ocracoke. What was the occasion that had you out on the water at such an early hour? And speaking of out on the water, is your own boat getting much use this season?

    Thanks for sharing, as always.

    1. I took this photo from the charter boat Gecko, on our way to the Gulf Stream.

I took my boat out of the water because the outboard motor isn't working reliably. I didn't want to be towed back to the dock again!

Towed back to the dock? I don't think we heard THAT story here. Last boat tale I recall was of "raising" the boat when it settled AT the dock. Care to share the towing tale (if it's not too painful)? Where were you towed from? How does one communicate with the tow-er (i.e., is cell phone coverage universal across Pamlico Sound; do--or must--folks in boats more substantial than say, a kayak have radios on board; do you send up a flare, or a flag; or do you just "hopefully" hail the nearest fellow boater)?

Inquiring land lubbers want to know--as always.

    :-)

    1. I was only out at Springer's Point. Couldn't get the motor to start, so I called a neighbor on my cell phone. As another islander told me once, "Philip, no wonder you keep having problems with your boat...everything you have was made in the 1950s!" Actually my dad built the boat in the 1970s, and the motor is a 1994 model. I'll take the carburetor apart again and see if I can locate the problem.
