Oh it is in such good fun.The 21st century has been kind to the pirate folklore, it is a money maker. As are witches i.e. wizard of Oz, Wicked, Snow White, Strega Nona etc, popularized in young peoples literature. The notion that the man without a country, one that chooses anonymity/notoriety/AKA vs an established relationship with a local community -- wait, that is what a community activist does. They come to an area of disenfranchised peoples --- by challenging the overlords, the pirate tries to create or is it disrupt the balance of power. Compensated, befriending the locals the avenger "plunders" changes , the social fabric to benefit who? History is written by those in control to do so. Arrg!
