Today is Cousin Blanche's birthday. She is 94 years old, and doing great. Yesterday afternoon she helped me host for the Ocracoke Historic Homes Christmas Tour. She was a striking figure in her red Christmas finery!
I'm sorry, I didn't get a photo, but here is a picture of Blanche & Amy from two years ago:
Leave a birthday wish, and I will print them out and carry them to her later this afternoon.

ReplyDeleteHi Blanche! I am a very part-time resident and I haven't met you yet but hopefully I will on one of my trips to the island. Have a wonderful birthday and many more to come!
ReplyDelete94 years, congratulations! What a life story you must have to tell. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteI recently foumd this quote.

You get accused of things you never did, and praised for virtues you never had."

A special birthday for a very special lady!
Happiest of birthdays Cousin Blanche! You are such a gem of Ocracoke. Thank you for all the help with identifying people and places in my father's (Charlie Jones') pictures from the 1950's.

Was lovely to hear you speak at an Opray 2 years ago-I have a lovely NC aunty who turned 96 this year. You are amazing ladies. I cut out an article you had contributed to in Our State Magazine about the warfare on the island during 1940s and we read it together this year. Congratulations on another ride around the sun! ReplyDeleteBelated greetings from the wee hours on a frigid night in Pittsburgh, PA, where warm thoughts for your birthday (and thoughts of Ocracoke--as always) are swirling through the air. Best wishes for happy holidays with your family and friends, and a wonderful New Year.
ReplyDeleteGive Blanche our warmest wishes! I have been busy up here in the mountains with a lot of snow and ice over the past couple of weeks and I wish I had been better about looking at your blog. Arlene and I hope she had a fantastic Birthday and we send all our love to her! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's Eve celebration, too. Hopefully this summer my wife will have read another interesting book so that we can get a copy for her as well. :-) chances are high... Arlene reads a LOT! Again, Happy Birthday and all the best to all of you! -Robb Foster
ReplyDeleteAuntie Blanche, I am sorry I am late with your Birthday. I am living in China and I don't often get to check the news from Ocracoke. I talk to my mum and dad (Elizabeth and Calvin Hanrahan) once a week on the phone. I do check the website sometimes and that is how I came to learn of you. I am sure I've seen you once or twice on the island when I was a young boy, somewhere from 7 to 16 years old, when we'd vacation on the island many years ago. I've grown older now, as happens with most people. I'm not sure I'm much wiser now, but from the stories I've heard you're quite wise and can regale many a folk with stories from your youth. Happiest of Birthdays!
ReplyDeleteBelated, but heartfelt birthday greetings to Ms. Blanche. May God continue to bless you! You are such an inspiration! Greetings from NC Mainlander in Person Co, NC.
