Ferry to Cedar Island and Swan Quarter
ReplyDeleteIf one is unfamiliar with the notion that the passenger ferry $$$ will be a "shot in the arm" (what a bad choice of words) because the vehicle ferry which has space for visitors without cars but it is "so far from the village" --- people don't want to walk or bring a bike and a County provided tram is needed ???? ARE there No UBER drivers on OI??? I merely googled Ocracoke island south dock and these related articles appeared. What is the status ? The long ferry ride going through a natural N A T U R A L channel is not good enough-- it seems in the rush rush world I guess living/visiting on/a remote island well, it's just to remote. The 30-minute ride path was changed by a few hurricanes and now studies were done money applied for and everyone waits-- Has No one taken matters into their OWN hands and solved their individual transportation issue?? I can relate really. As a teen I paid for the rental of a small plane . My brother's friend ( a licensed pilot of course) flew the plane, he booked hours, I flew over the Florida Keys from Miami to Key West. The airport is on the edge of town, it was near a small rocky beach it was very hot that day. My planning failed to include site seeing as we were renting the plane by the hour and well if I had there were no vendors at the airport to rent bikes, a taxi ride to where, and well yes I can sympathize with feeling stranded - but it was not the case. The point of the trip was to view the glorious Florida Keys from the sky. This was in 1975. In preparing for the OI tourist season does the community know in advance projected visitation figures? Does any entity collect, does the newspaper report projections vs hard data on annual visitation figures thus judging if the methodology employed to generate projections is on target? All this talk of ferry rides it is so controversial.
ReplyDeleteFerry dock for Hatters ferry. I hope I’m right b/c I think I learned that from you... :-)
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:43, While I am no fan of the new passenger ferry concept, I think you are missing the main point. This is not an alternative for those that don't want to drive or make it down to the village, it is a way to save time because of the congested, overly crowded traditional car ferries. So, comparing it to your experience in Key West is very different.
