October Newsletter

This month's Ocracoke Newsletter is the story of the Soundfront Inn. Built in the early 19th century, shortly after the lighthouse, the Inn is one of the oldest buildings on the island. You can read the article here:


  1. I have a question about the spelling of Capt. Chase's name. I have a photo of his daughter's headstone which spells her name Eliza Ann Chace. It identifies her parents as Elisha and Thurza Chace. Is that just a stone-cutter's error?

    1. Bob, I don't know the answer to your question...but my guess is that the name on the tombstone is misspelled. I will take a look at the marker myself sometime soon.
