Shut Down? Not Ocracoke Village!

In the wake of the federal government's partial shut down, our local on-line news source, the Ocracoke Current, has published two informative articles explaining what to expect locally...and how to enjoy your time on Ocracoke Island while our government figures out how to get back to business.

Jack and I are planning on heading that way this evening. Can't wait to get there. The beach is beautiful but that's not the main reason we love Ocracoke.

article, "Ed says the big NPS parking lot will remain open and accessible", does that mean I can park my car there while I hide on the beach?

    1. I think Ed means the parking lot between the NPS Visitors Center and the Ocracoke Preservation Museum. However, I noticed on Tuesday afternoon that the parking lots at the Nature Trail, at the Pony Pen, and farther north were open.

I know you have nothing to do with this but maybe you have heard something in the background.

We are suppose to stay on Ocracoke Island beginning Oct12 for 2+ weeks. We are signed up for a 1/2 dozen or so Wings Over Water events. We have tried to call and email them but no one responds.

We are wondering about the events that take place on Park or near service property and the shut down. Even though it's a few weeks away, it could extend that far. If it does go that far are there any WOW contingency plans? That's what we need to know.

Since we are excited about this trip and my husband is already getting his stuff together it's concerning us especially since there has been no response. We plan on canceling the trip if the president stays firm on the shut down and the WOW event is effected.

    Thanks for any help

    1. Nancy, I'm sorry but I don't know anything about WOW...and I don't have any contact information other than what you must have. However, I am optimistic (perhaps naive!) and think the shutdown issue will be resolved before you arrive (we can only hope).
