Charlotte

Ocracokers were shocked and saddened Tuesday morning to learn that two-and-a-half-year-old Charlotte, daughter of Marcy Brenner & Lou Castro had died in her sleep. Many of our readers know Charlotte and her parents who play music together as "Coyote." In addition, Marcy and Lou are both part of the band "Molasses Creek."

Any death in our community, especially the death of a child, affects everyone. Charlotte was frequently in attendance at performances and informal gatherings where she'd dance and clap along with the music. Charlotte loved other people, pre-school, animals, music, books, dancing, and drawing.

Joyce Reynolds looked after her as her own grandchild, but Charlotte was also often seen sitting on various peoples' laps listening to her mama and papa as they picked their instruments and sang to entertain us all.

The entire Ocracoke community is in mourning for a sweet little girl that captured everyone's hearts.

Condolences may be mailed to Marcy Brenner & Lou Castro, PO Box 734, Ocracoke, NC 27960.

A service is scheduled for Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. Marcy and Lou have asked, that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Ocracoke Child Care, PO Box 284, Ocracoke, NC 27960.

Thanks for posting this. I was in church with Charlotte and her parents this summer when we were camping on the island. I am so sad for them.

Thank you for sharing this information. I've gotten to know Marcy and Lou from various trips to the island, and Marcy and I share a common friend from Ohio.

How tragic. I don't know the parents personally, but my heart is breaking for them.

  5. Philip,
We were so so sorry to hear of little Charlotte's passing. Our hearts are heavy for Marcy & Lou and we would like to pray for them: "Father, we pray that You would wrap Your loving arms around Lou & Marcy as they struggle with the loss of their sweet, young daughter. Father, we pray that they would be strengthened by Your love and presence during this very difficult time and that You would give them perfect peace knowing that Charlotte is resting in Your arms. These things we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.

Oh, how my heart aches for Marcy and Lou. I have had the wonderful opportunity to talk to Marcy on several trips to Ocracoke, and I know what joy Charlotte brought to their lives. To Marcy and Lou, and to their extended Ocracoke family, I wish peace and comfort.

The God of all comfort be with Lou and Mary. I am touched and saddened by this.
I lost one of my grand children and found it so difficult to understand why. But as time has passed I have stopped asking why and just have my good memories of her and know she is with the Lord.

  13. We as parents aren't meant to leave this world before our children. I think that is the biggest heartbreak of all when they do. I haven't been able to get you off my mind and I pray for you... Marcy, and Lou constantly. You touched my heart during my week stay at NCCAT. You lit up when you spoke of your family. Thank you for the opportunity to get to meet you. I will continue to pray for you and the Ocracoke community. Love and Hugs,

I Love Ocracoke, was catching up reading your blog tonight after a few months. Reading your sad post, then seeing the picture of that beautiful little angel Charlotte with her curly red hair absolutely broke my heart, such a tragic loss. Love & Prayers go out to her Parents - may they find comfort in her memory and each other to continue on. A Friend in NC.
