Ocracoke Awakes!

Jude here to say hi. It's so nice to see folks back on the Island. There are a lot of familiar faces and faces we hope will soon become familiar. As I work in my office, I can hear the chatter and laughter of children on the Village Craftsmen play structure in the yard outside my window. Being the proud granmother of three delightful little girls who live in the midwest, I miss the sound of their laughter. Restaurants and businesses are opening one by one. The sound of hammers, saws and lawnmowers is in the air. Ocracoke Awakes!

This month's Ocracoke Newsletter is about "Ocracats" and was written by Pat Garber. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news031710.htm.

Just wait until they start building the new WINGS store on Howard Street. That, with the new casino opening over at the harbor entrance show that Ocracoke is just starting to wake up.

I found it interesting that recent news reports regarding the census state If you are mailed a form and you return the form it costs you $.42 cents. If a census worker comes to your door to collect the data it costs the federal government 60 dollars. If the entire population of the remote sections of the country such as ocracoke island for example-- 800 X $60 vs 800 X $.42 cents

Did the poster that boasted of talking to a census taker fail to send in a mailed form??? thus costing the taxpayer (me and you)

more that is could have ?? or If they did not why did a local remote community not pull together to help validate the population --in a unified and cost saving manner the thought that you could be deny your community grant money for an enterprise zone and the construction of a WINGS store is thoughtless

Today is census day send in that form ---let the representatives you deserve to elect be elected, and road construction money you are entitled to be siphoned off er awarded.
