Have you heard anything about people being stranded on Portsmouth Island? How could that happen?

I too, am thinking of all who call OBX home. Since my late father first took us to Hatteras in 1967 when he taught USCG Reserve training in Norfolk (retired 32 yrs USCG Full Cmdr WWII Vet) I cannot stop a burning passion & love for your barrier islands. I was there 2 days after Floyd & saw only a small glimpse of the incredible forces of nature of these storm. I have tremendous respect for the resilience of the residents & business owners.....a love for all life there encounters & encompasses, but the love that also endears & endures. My prayers & heartfelt concern for all as we also wait & watch for your islands...from half a continent away, you are the "Island Keepers" to me, just as the lighthouse keepers of the past. I love Hatteras & Ocracoke, they hold a piece of my soul.

Be safe everyone, especially in that tree lined shady nook known as Howard Street.
