Power Outage Update From Tideland EMC

Our local power company has been great keeping us updated on our power outage and working tirelessly to get power back to us. Here is an update from them:

OCT 09 2016
Progress made but challenges remain; 10,286 members remain off

OCRACOKE:
Ocracoke Island lost service at 5:22 am Sunday morning. Transmission service has been restored to the island. Crews are replacing 4 broken poles on the beach. There is some distribution system damage in the village so the generator cannot be put into service. Village repairs will proceed when the beach poles are replaced and flood waters recede.
Exercise extreme caution and avoid downed power lines. Even if utility power is off, lines can become re-energized if a household generator backfeeds onto our electric system. If you do operate a generator make sure you operate it in a well-ventilated area and do not connect into your breaker panel without a proper double-pole double-throw switch.
