Copper Lanterns

For more than forty years, Village Craftsmen has offered an outstanding assortment of quality, American made hand crafted pottery, glassware, kitchen items, wooden products, jewelry, and much more.

Recently we have begun taking orders for handmade copper lanterns. We have three different designs. Two are reproductions of antique wall-mounted ship's lanterns. The third, our "Virginia Lantern," pictured below, is similar to the one Thomas Jefferson designed for use in the gardens at Monticello.

The craftsmen, Walter Howard, Jr. and Dalton O'Neal, make every effort to be as accurate as possible in the crafting of each lantern, hand bending and soldering them with traditional irons. Walter is the son of the late native Ocracoke islander, Walter Howard, Sr., vaudeville performer, consummate storyteller, and accomplished writer.

Our latest Ocracoke Newsletter is Lou Ann's story of the Night Blooming Cereus Cactus. You can read it here: http://www.villagecraftsmen.com/news072111.htm.

Philip, I noticed the handsome, handcrafted lanterns when I was recently viewing the "new" items featured on the Village Craftsmen catalog page. The craftsmenship in the photos is amazing. I am sure it is even more impressive in person.

I hope the two men you mentioned will have plenty of orders for these historical lanterns. Leave it to VC to offer these locally made, handcrafted lanterns!

These are truly very special heirloom pieces to pass down through the generations.

Not these designs but we've got one that was given to us by one of your poker buddies & his late wife back in 1993 as a wedding gift, also made on the island. In fact he's coming for dinner tomorrow night, since he's here on Mtn top!! I'll have to show these to the wife and see if she wants to buy me one for Xmas! Wish October would get here sooner, I'm ready for week on island. Take Care NN

Good Morning, Philip....waiting on Monday's blog before I head to work. You must be sleeping in today. With the poker games, ghost walks, volunteering @ the OPS, clamming in the sound, dropping by the VC, blogging, and researching for your newsletter, Lord knows the boy gets tired. Get some 40 extra winks this morn and enjoy it!

That's perfectly alright....I'll catch ya this evening.

    Keep on blogging....

This NC mainlander enjoys reading it! It just makes my morning to see the ferry leave (web-cams) and view your interesting blog. One morning without the blog won't kill me...I'll survive, somehow! :)
