From Hyde Co. Emergency Services

All transportation to Ocracoke is operating on normal schedule.

The NC Ferry System resumed normal operations and normal schedule on Saturday, September 4 as of 5 AM. Tolls will be waived for residents with appropriate stickers subject to availability. Residents trying to return to Ocracoke on Saturday, September 4 should be in line for the ferry 30 minutes prior to departure.

The Hatteras-Ocracoke route is open as of 5 AM today. They are running on the hour until further notice. Pay attention to Highway 12 on Ocracoke and Hatteras islands as overwash may make the route impassable. Be aware of standing water and sand on the road.

So happy to see that Ocracoke and its residents came through Earl in such good shape. My wife and I will be there Thurs for several days celebrating our 38th anniversary. We are so looking forward to these days in this little piece of heaven.
